Banbury 3’s 146
Horley 1’s 149-2
Horley finally secured their first win of the season in Cherwell League Division 3 on derby day against Banbury 3rds.
Crucially winning the toss gave Horley the opportunity to bowl first and make the most of the overcast conditions. They were soon in a dominant position having reduced Banbury to 12-3 thanks to the new ball partnership of Adam Webb (2-20) and Darren De Bruyn (2-49). Justin Lambden (24) and Tom Hill (20) briefly stemmed the rot putting on 41 in 9 overs but the introduction of Oscar Allitt (3-32) tore the heart out of the Banbury innings with two wickets in his first over before Dave Eaton (2-31 from 17 overs) got in on the act reducing Banbury to 83-8. Veteran Neil Megson (33) gave the score an air of respectability with a fine rear-guard action with assistance from Alex Shortt (10) and James Risbridger (15*) as Banbury closed on 147 in the final over.
Horley’s response with the bat was initially watchful as Andrew Stanley (40*) and Sam Pearce (16) saw off the new ball before former Horley player Alex Shortt took the prized wicket of Pearce. The arrival of Horley skipper Dave Taylor saw the run rate increase as he struck 12 fours in run-a-ball 61 in a 2nd wicket partnership of 95. Taylor finally succumbed LBW before Dave Clark bludgeoned a quick-fire 23 to end the game with 8 overs to spare.
