Horley 1’s 273-9
Shipton-under-Wychwood 2’s 194-8
Horley were left frustrated once again as they failed to get over the winning line against Shipton-under-Wychwood in Cherwell League Division 3. Upon losing the toss Horley were asked to bat first and despite the early loss of Sam Pearce set about constructing a solid base through Andrew Stanley (26) and Dave Taylor (75). As the pair brought up their century partnership and Taylor his half century, Horley looked set to make another big total. Dave Clark (71) joined Taylor to accelerate the scoring striking three 6’s in his 51 ball innings. Dave Eaton (20), Adam Webb (22) and Pete Papenfus (20*) all provided some solid late hitting to take Horley up to 273-9 despite the efforts of Shipton veteran Paul Hemming (5-58).
Horley got off to flying start in the field with Pete Papenfus making the early breakthrough. However a streaky 50 from Russell Hayes with support from C Miller (27) and Paul Hemming (30) saw Shipton advance onto 123-3 from 28 overs despite the efforts of Adam Webb (2-60). As the game looked destined for a draw, 4 quick wickets from Dave Eaton (2-34) and Darren De Bruyn (3-37) suddenly saw Shipton facing the prospect of surviving the last 15 overs with just 3 wickets in hand. Horley failed to capitalise though as G Townsend (33*) showed stubborn resistance as Shipton closed on leaving the hosts without a win in their opening 3 games.
